Our huge Porthleven Arts Gallery wall in The Shipyard Market showcases work from talented emerging artists working in art forms ranging from illustration to mixed media to printing.
It’s totally free to display your work for sale and just 10% commission if it’s sold – you just need to be a member of Porthleven Arts Community.
Any money made from sales goes into art projects and events run in Porthleven.
Get your art on the wall
To feature your art on the wall you must first become a Porthleven Arts Community (PAC) member and then contact us by email on info@porthlevenarts.com
You’ll then be sent be sent a blank A4 form to complete and provide two copies. The printed sheet will include:
(a) the title of the work
(b) about the artwork (story and medium)
(c) dimensions
(d) artist biography
(e) price required and
(f) clear colour photo image of the artwork.
Once this is returned you’ll be emailed a PAC gallery agreement to also print out two copies and sign. You’ll then be invited to bring two copies to the market to be signed by Hannabeth Johnson (HJ) at the same time as delivering your biography and artwork.
Displaying your art
To display you’ll need to agree to PAC displaying a single work for free and then taking 10% commission if the artwork sells. PAC reserves the right to waive or reduce the commission rate at its discretion and will not accept liability for damage or theft and will display for one month. If not sold in that period, you must collect your work. If it is not collected we will charge for storage and then eventually auction the work off.
The first set of artists will be invited to come to the market a week before the market opens to display your work. You must provide and bring suitable hooks for hanging etc.
Your biography, price and works completed sheet will be held in a ring bound folder which will be hung or placed physically on a plinth under the art wall. Customers can then look through the folder at the different artworks and prices. This saves price sticker etc on the artwork. It should be easy to remove and replace the information in the folder as work is removed, replaced and sold.
Payment for your work
To purchase the artwork, the customer will pay via a card machine located in the cafe which will be specifically linked to the PAC bank account. The artwork sold will be recorded in a PAC sales book.
Hannabeth will once a month go through the sold pieces and contact/ask the artist to invoice PAC for the 90%. Once the invoice is received, PAC will transfer 90% of the funds received to the artist by BACS.
We will contact any artists waiting for a space to display their artwork when one piece sells or, alternatively, we may allow the artist who has sold their work to display another in any available space.
