Porthleven Arts Prize

The Porthleven Harbour Art Prize is a new annual art competition to be held in the vibrant, thriving coastal village of Porthleven which has long attracted artists and now has a strong cultural tradition.

The new prize will come under the umbrella of Porthleven Arts, a Community Interest Company which supports arts, innovation and creativity in the widest sense and presents the annual autumn Porthleven Arts Festival.

The Porthleven Harbour Art Prize will take place in late May 2023, over a 14-day period encompassing submissions, judging, awards and a public exhibition, with artworks available to purchase.

The competition has the broad theme of ‘Porthleven and its Environment’ and a diverse interpretation of this is anticipated. It is hoped that the competition will encourage en plein air painting around the village in the run up to the competition.

The competition will initially be open to all forms of 2D media, except for photography (it is hoped that this, and also sculpture, may be added in future years as the competition becomes established). There will be first and second prizes of £2000 and £500, two categories for young people (up to 13 years and 13-18 years) with £100 prizes, and a People’s Choice Prize, voted for by the public visiting the exhibition, of £200.

Entries will be judged by a panel of local and national artists, experts and supporters of the competition. The winners of the prizes will be announced at a preview event prior to public opening, except for the People’s Choice which will be announced at the close of the exhibition.

Full details are on the Porthleven Arts website, www.porthlevenartsfestival.com, via art groups, galleries, posters around the village, PR and social media activity.

The deadline for entries (new requests for entry forms) is 12noon on Friday 12th May.

We will accept completed forms with an entry number until 12noon on Monday 15th May.

The Judging Day is Saturday 20th May, and the winners will be announced at the Private View at approx. 7.00pm.

The Private View is at the Net Loft, Porthleven Harbour (Mount Pleasant Road, Porthleven  TR13 9JS) from 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

All competition entrants are welcome.
